Four years after glory in 1966, Banks made the save which later came to define his career – ‘the save of the century’. During England’s clash with Brazil in the group stage of the 1970 World Cup, Pele perfectly placed a header towards the far corner of Banks’ goal, and immediately shouted ‘Gol!’, only to see the keeper react with lightning speed to push the ball over the top of the bar.Banks’ famous save will forever go down in history6

The save has been widely labelled the greatest in the history of the game, and Banks himself later said: “They won’t remember me for winning the World Cup, it’ll be for that save.“That’s how big a thing it is.
