Wesley Hoedt: Southampton defender joins Celta Vigo on loan for remainder of the season
Wesley Hoedt has left Southampton to join Celta Vigo on a loan deal until the end of the season.Netherlands international Hoedt has not featured for Saints under new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, with his most recent appearance coming in a 3-2 defeat by Fulham that became Mark Hughes’ penultimate match in charge. The deal taking the 24-year-old to Spain includes an option for Celta to make the move permanent in the summer.A statement on Southampton’s website read: “Hoedt’s move will allow him to gain additional playing time between now and the end of the season, while also further helping Hasenhuttl to achieve his aim of trimming the first-team squad this month.“The club would like to wish Wesley good luck for the rest of the season.”Hoedt, who joined Southampton on a five-year contract from Lazio for 15million in the summer of 2017, follows Steven Davis and Manolo Gabbiadini in leaving St Mary’s this month. He has made 45 appearances for the south coast club in all competitions, with his only goal coming in last season’s FA Cup defeat of West Brom.Hoedt, who won the most recent of his six international caps against Bulgaria in September 2017, joins fellow Saints loanee Sofiane Boufal at Celta. The centre-back’s new side are battling relegation from LaLiga, sitting a point and a place above the relegation zone in 17th.

Talks have reportedly paused due to Chelsea's transfer ban, but with his contract expiring next year, this summer would be the last possible time to earn some real money from selling Hazard. Chelsea will reportedly demand €115m if they are to sell him, with Real hoping to seal the deal for closer to €100m.
