The Norwegian has been appointed caretaker manager until the end of the season following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal on Tuesday and is tasked with reinvigorating his old club who struggled during the Portuguese’s turbulent tenure amid a number of rifts with players.Ferguson was renowned for his fiery demeanour and never let anyone get above their station during his 26 years in charge which brought huge success. His outbursts were designed to get the best out of under-performing players, as well as keeping those who chose not to respond to the Scot’s demands, in line.Only once was Solskjaer on the receiving end when he was sent off against Newcastle United in 1998, but he understood why this method was used.“We are all different to how we manage people and [Ferguson] was different to every individual,” Solskjaer explained. “Of course, maybe I should get the hairdryer out of my pocket because Ive got a hairdryer.2

“When my hair needs lifting I use it on myself but I am also not afraid of, if you like, laying down the law. You know with your kids when they disappoint you, you tell them off, you dont give them some chocolate then, do you?“So you treat players similar to how you treat your kids really because you want the best for them, you want to guide them, you want to help them, but if I get disappointed? Ask Noah, or Kane or Ellia or some of the players I had in Molde. Once in a while you really have to tell them standards weve got.”Solskjaer will oversee Man United for the first time today when they face the last club he managed in the Premier League, Cardiff City, at 5.30pm on talkSPORT.
