Chelsea have signed Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund and loaned him back to the Bundesliga club, it has been confirmed.Pulisic, the United States winger, joins the Blues in a deal worth around 57.6million (64million) after being heavily linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge.Dortmund confirmed Pulisic’s transfer on Wednesday morning, before Chelsea followed up with a statement of their own.The 20-year-old will spend the remainder of the 2018/19 season on loan at BVB, before linking up with Maurizio Sarri’s side ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.Pulisic said: “In summer I move on to Chelsea and to a new competition, the English Premier League.“Its a privilege to have signed for such a legendary club and I look forward to working hard towards being a contributor to their team ofworld class players.” Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: “We are delighted to have signed one of Europes most sought-after young players.“Christian has shown his quality during a fantastic spell in Germany and at just 20, we believe he has the potential to become an important Chelsea player for many years to come.“We look forward to welcoming him to Stamford Bridge in the summer and wish him and Dortmund every success for the remainder of the season.”Pulisic joins Chelsea having made 115 appearances for Dortmund, scoring 15 goals and creating a further 24.Pulisic has long been regarded as one of the world’s finest young players1

As part of Dortmund’s statement, Michael Zorc, the club’s sporting director, admitted: “It was always Christian’s dream to play in the Premier League. That certainly has to do with his American background, and as a result we were unable to extend his contract.“Against this background, we have decided to accept an extremely lucrative bid by Chelsea, given the low contract maturity.“Christian Pulisic is a character perfect player. I am sure that in the coming months he will do everything in his power to bring his high quality to the team and to achieve his sporting goals with his team-mates Borussia Dortmund.”He has been capped 23 times by the United States and netted on nine occasions, also captaining his country despite his young age.The youngster spent some of his youth in England, playing for Brackley Town as a seven-year-old when his parents moved to these shores for work.He also played for Michigan Rush and PA Classics in his homeland, before joining Dortmund as a 16-year-old in 2015.
